Heywood Sports Village is a public place of sport and has superb facilities including two swimming pools, a fitness suite, a multi-purpose sports hall and outdoor artificial pitches. Heywood Sports Village has a six lane 25-metre pool, learner pool, spectator seating, and male/female changing areas with additional family changing facilities.
The project was a new build 10.5m value sports village for the township of Heywood. Achieving BREEAM very good was an added objective.
Due to having new swimming pools as part of the project, careful consideration had to be given to the ventilation systems serving them, all of the system components and ductwork were carefully selected and the correct coatings applied to ensure the longevity of the systems.
Key Integrated Services in-house specialist ventilation division were employed to design and deliver the ventilation installations for this scheme. With over 50 years’ experience between the team involved, the client had comfort that we had the knowledge to deliver. Sustainable energy solutions were carefully considered, such as in-ground heat pumps in conjunction with photovoltaic and solar panels on the Sports Hall roof in order to reach BREEAM status.
Testament to the team involved, Heywood Sports Village was shortlisted for the ‘RICS Award North West Community Benefit Category’ and also nominated for a Local Authority Building Control (LABC) Building Excellence Award.
