Lancaster University – Chemistry Labs
KeyIS were responsible for the design and delivery of the mechanical and electrical services to the new C66 chemistry laboratory, a refurbishment of an existing academic facility to suit the modern teaching methods of the university.
Project Objectives
The objective for the team was to develop a performance specification into a working design. The installation would comprise of new low face velocity fume cupboards, local exhaust ventilation and all accompanying mechanical and electrical services.
Challenges
Due to the age of the site and its infrastructure, working with the existing services proved somewhat difficult. Utmost care had to be taken when completing break-ins to the existing steam mains on site, there was little in the way of fitted drawings so the site team had to rely on surveys and validation works that had been completed.
Solution
KeyIS developed the design into a workable solution and delivered the services as planned. High quality Waldner fume cupboards were installed and their tailored control package enhanced to control all of the services installed to provide a slick control solution to the new facility.
The Results
The project was completed on time and on budget with a 100% health and safety record. KeyIS were scored extremely highly by the main contractor and have maintained a relationship ever since.
