Port of Tilbury T2
Over 130 years old and crucial to UK prosperity, with government support the Port of Tilbury embarked on a major development to meet the needs of importers and exporters to contribute to the long-term economic growth of the UK. The project was to demolish the old Tilbury power station adjacent to the existing port and create a new deep-water jetties, warehousing facilities and a host of other supporting buildings.
Project Objectives
Given our extensive experience in the food industry our objective was to provide a suite of mechanical and electrical services to the chilled and frozen meats building in the port for goods coming in and out of the UK. This is a new build facility as part of the overall masterplan.
Challenges
Being a major contributor to the future success of the UK this project had to be completed quickly. It was fast track from start to finish and the team at KeyIS had to mobilise quickly. Food projects can often be challenging, this project had its own demands due to the varied amount of goods to be stored in the premises. Coastal erosion was also a big factor with this project.
Solution
Key integrated Services provided pre-construction assistance, design support plus lead co-ordination with a project management team to deliver all the mechanical and electrical services to the facility. Additional services provided were ATEX rated ventilation systems with Hydrogen monitoring, Insectocuter installation, UPS emergency lighting. Staff training and a maintenance package was provided to give on-going support after handover.
The Results
The project was completed in October 2021 held in regard by the client as a quality project. From start on site to completion the project was delivered in 5 months and was a complete success for both us and the client.
