Inspiring future engineers: KeyIS attends Lymm High School Careers Fair with a familiar face

At Key Integrated Services (KeyIS), we believe in building more than just systems, we build sustainable, life-long, futures. That’s why we were proud to attend the recent Lymm High School Careers Fair, where we engaged with the next generation of engineers in the local area and highlighted the opportunities that a career in mechanical and electrical (M&E) engineering can offer. This year’s event was particularly special. Representing KeyIS on the day was William Wray, one of our newest apprentices and a proud former student of Lymm High School himself.

From pupil to professional: William’s journey

Our initial goal was to find a new apprentice for our growing Pre-Construction department. When we heard about the local careers fair at Lymm High School, it felt like the perfect opportunity to connect with young talent from the surrounding community.

Before the event took place, however, we were approached by William. A recent school leaver from Lymm High, he expressed a strong interest in joining our team. After a thorough assessment and interview process, we quickly saw the potential in him. William was offered the role of an apprentice and has since become an integral part of the KeyIS team.

Despite the original vacancy being filled, we remained committed to the careers fair, and William, inspired by his own experience, enthusiastically volunteered to help lead our involvement.

A stand-out stand

William took initiative from the start, designing promotional flyers, curating snapshots of KeyIS projects that would resonate with students and even organising branded pens to hand out. On the day, he arrived early to set up our booth, complete with banners, chairs and materials ready for display.

Throughout the event, William spoke with confidence to students and parents alike, sharing insights about his journey from Lymm High student to Building Services Engineering Senior Technician apprentice with KeyIS. His ability to relate to the students and offer genuine, first-hand advice made a lasting impression.

More than a career

Events like these are part of KeyIS’ broader commitment to social value, community impact and putting people first. By investing in apprenticeships and mentoring, we ensure that the future of our industry is in capable, passionate hands.

William is now enrolled in a Level 4 BSEST apprenticeship with Salford City College Group, and we’re excited to support his development as he grows within the business.

Why work with KeyIS?
