Investing in skills and building the future – National Apprenticeship Week 2026

Developing the next generation of talent is essential to the future of our industry. This National Apprenticeship Week, we’re celebrating the apprentices across our business who are building their skills, gaining real-world experience and shaping their careers with us. Through structured learning, hands-on training and dedicated mentoring, our apprenticeship programme is creating clear pathways for long-term success.

With a new apprenticeship programme launching and a commitment for apprentices to make up more than 5% of our workforce, we are continuing to invest in the skills our industry will rely on for years to come.

William Wray, Apprentice Estimator

For William, the most rewarding part of his apprenticeship is seeing progress first-hand.

“Completing a project and being able to see where it was and where it is now has been the most rewarding moment.”

Working towards his HNC in Building Services Engineering, William values the support of the preconstruction team.

“They’ve helped teach me the sides of mechanical engineering that the course doesn’t.”

With a strong interest in CAD and design, he hopes to progress onto a degree apprenticeship and work towards chartership.

Alex Goulden, Apprentice Quantity Surveyor

For Alex, apprenticeships offer the ideal balance between structured learning and real-world experience.

“They’re the perfect combination of gaining industry experience while working towards a higher qualification.”

Alongside developing technical knowledge, Alex has grown in confidence by learning how to manage responsibility and balance work, study and personal life.

“Finding the balance has helped me grow both professionally and personally.”

By the time he completes his apprenticeship, he will have nearly six years of industry experience and a role firmly established within the business, a strong foundation for long term career progression.

Bailey Simpson, Apprentice Engineer

Bailey chose an apprenticeship to gain hands-on experience alongside structured learning.

“You get real practical experience while learning at college and having access to the knowledge needed to succeed.”

Since starting, he has developed both technical skills and confidence.

“I’ve improved my communication and teamwork, as well as hands-on skills like threading pipe and bracketry.”

Bailey’s advice to others is simple:

“Apprenticeships are competitive, but they offer a strong pathway to learning, earning, and long-term success.”

Mackenzie O’Brien, Apprentice Maintenance Engineer

For Mackenzie, variety and hands on learning were key.

“I chose this apprenticeship at KEYIS Maintenance as it combined hands on experience with travelling to different sites we look after.”

Over the past two years, he has achieved qualifications including City & Guilds F-Gas, Property Maintenance, NICEIC Electrical Appreciation and Awareness, IPAF and PASMA.

“I’ve learned to take pride in our work, keep customers informed, and make sure we leave them happy.”

His advice is simple:

“Stop thinking. Start doing. Apprenticeships are the best way to gain real world knowledge while earning and learning.Don’t be afraid to ask questions, every day is a school day.”

A long-term commitment

As an employer, we are committed to developing talent from within. Our new apprenticeship programme and ambition for apprentices to make up more than 5% of our workforce reflects a sustained investment in training, mentoring, and progression.

By supporting apprentices at every stage of their journey, we are strengthening our business while building the skills our industry needs at the same time.
