New Bakery Production Area, Leeds
To support growth and compete effectively in the food-on the-go market, our client, a well known nationwide high-street bakers, is investing around £100 million in a major programme to create centres of excellence in manufacturing and distribution. To this end, a new cake manufacturing line has been installed within the existing bakery facility on this site.
Project Objectives
The objectives were to survey and identify the service modification necessary to meet the new facility requirements. Once this was done we were able to advise the client on budget costs and options before implementing the full installation. KeyIS were tasked to design and build the full mechanical & electrical services which included Lighting, Power distribution, fire alarm, gas, heating, ventilation, plumbing and above ground drainage services. KeyIS carried out the existing condition surveys for all the services and were able to advise the client on the most cost-effective solutions.
Challenges
Being an existing facility, plant equipment had to be replaced and/or upgraded, along with the upsizing and re-distribution of the mechanical and electrical services, all within a tight timeframe and within the financial expectations. Access to the area was also limited with new openings in the side of the building having to be created to facilitate installation of all equipment
Solution
A new Air Handling Unit was installed in the room with upgraded heating and cooling capabilities suitable for the environmental conditions required by the client for the new baking process. The new unit also provided make-up air for the oven combustion / extract ventilation. Key also installed the flue systems serving the new ovens and carried out all the final service connections.
Existing services were co-ordinated and installed whilst working alongside the clients specialist contractors.
The Results
The new facility is a state of the art manufacturing process with increased capacity to allow the clients growth expectations to be achieved. Our client is extremely pleased with Key’s professional approach and performance; ranging from technical support to a high standard of workmanship throughout the project.
