Cargill Meats Europe
Established over 50 years ago, Cargill’s combined Hereford sites employ around 2000 people across production and office based functions. Cargill currently process 1.6 million chickens per week at the Grandstand Road plant. The project was to provide new eviscerations lines at the facility.
Project Objectives
The objective of the new evisceration lines was to increase production at the facility with Key Integrated Services being employed on a design and build basis to ensure a suitable environment was maintained throughout production and ensure all processing equipment requirements were adequately serviced.
Challenges
Handling 10,000 chickens per hour in a live production environment produces a challenge on its own, the team at Key have vast experience in this sector so were able to determine the correct air change rates without exceeding budget. The evisceration line requires a large amount of complex equipment which required its own set of services in order to operate.
Solution
Key Integrated Services provided both performance specification and then detailed design with the client and the surrounding team to ensure the requirements were met. Utilising steam from the existing infrastructure and providing new services including chilled water, process water, vacuum lines, compressed air, supply and extract ventilation, controls and the like to form a complete installation.
The Results
The project was completed in March 2016 and held in regard by the client as the best evisceration line in Europe. The project from conception to completion was delivered in 5 months and was a complete success for both us and the client. Cargill’s have retained the services of Key Integrated Services for a number of other schemes.
