Essity, Trafford Park
Essity, the leading global health & hygiene company, had plans to expand its production facility in Trafford Park, Manchester. It included the re-modelling and extension of the main parent roll storage building, extension of the converter hall building including extended canopy and new product tunnel, extension of the staff restaurant building to create a new reception area.
Project Objectives
The objective of the project was to enable increased production, the facility currently manufactures 700,000 toilet rolls a day so already a considerable amount. The team at KeyIS were tasked with the complete design of all the mechanical & electrical services to enable this amazing new facility to function.
Challenges
As with most if the projects KeyIS undertake, this project had its own challenges. Toilet roll production generates vast amounts of combustible fibres, even though great lengths are taken to contain these the facility still posed an extra fire hazard risk of which the team had to manage. Furthermore the existing production lines could not be stopped to combining the new and old facilities had to be planned and executed to maintain production.
Solution
By adopting a highly experienced workforce, suited to these types of facilities. KeyIS were able to provide the multitude of mechanical & electrical services required to enable the new facility to be commissioned in line with the clients requirements. A sull suite of mechanical & electrical services were provided, including: New steam & condensate, sprinkler systems, power installations, lighting, control systems.
The Results
The building was handed over and now contributes to Essity’s massive contribution to the UK, churning out 4.7 million rolls of toilet roll per day which is more than 30% of the UK’s supply.
