Exelby Services Truckstop
Exelby Services Ltd was established in 1976, with the origins dating back to the late 1940’s. Starting with ‘Diesel Bunkering’ the fuel business expanded to include sites on the A19, at Carlisle on Junction 42 of the M6 and at Castleford. The company now handles over 140 million litres of diesel each year through the five sites making it one of the largest, independent bunkering suppliers in the country.
Project Objectives
Due to continued expansion plans a new £4.4 million, state-of-the-art facility was to be built replacing the Londonderry Garage, which was on the site previously. The project was to achieve BREEAM Excellent status which was a first for a development of this nature.
Challenges
Due to planning requirements BREEAM Excellent had to be achieved, given this was a first for a development of this nature the team entered unchartered territory which proved a challenge.
Solution
Key Integrated Services provided all of the mechanical and electrical services to this development. In addition to typical services, Key Integrated Services assisted with design and completed installations to the fuel tank farms, fuel canopy lighting, number plate recognition and fuel management systems.
The Results
The completed facility provides parking for up to 80 lorries and has re-fuelling facilities for HGVs and LGVs. Other features include a Costa Coffee, a Subway sandwich bar and a fully stocked mini market. Showers and wash-rooms are available for lorry drivers that choose to use the overnight car parking facility.
Steve Waggett, regional business manager for Clugston Construction in the North East commented, “Our team delivered a high quality facility for Exelby Services by working collaboratively with our clients to deliver value for money without compromise on quality.’’
