Johnson Matthey
Johnson Matthey are one of the largest specialist chemical companies in the world. KeyIS were delighted to be appointed as the mechanical & electrical services contractor to design and deliver the fit out of a vacant space within an existing facility. The facility will provide research and development for their catalysts division and act as a showcase for clients wishing to purchase the product.
Project Objectives
The client had a long list of objectives which entailed fume cupboards, process equipment, fume discharge, effluent removal, pressure regimes and chemical storage amongst others. KeyIS overall objective was to design and deliver a safe environment to work in and ensure the client’s production equipment was adequately serviced.
Challenges
With the client having an exhaustive list of equipment, the laboratory was fairly congested which resulted in excessive air change rates in certain areas. To ensure containment of fume cupboards was not affected, management of input air to each space was critical. Working with the clients project team and managing multiple stakeholder expectations meant that communication was critical.
Solution
KeyIS provided both performance specification and then detailed design to the client and the surrounding team to ensure requirements were met. Regular design team meetings were held throughout the project to ensure all expectations were captured. A full suite of specialist mechanical & electrical services were delivered for this scheme including, HVAC, hot & cold demin water, fume extract systems, compressed air and nitrogen, chemical drainage and controls amongst others.
The Results
The project was a complete success with a great facility handed over to Johnson Matthey. Due to a late order placed by the client it was a great achievement by all to have handed over this scheme on time and on budget.
