Manchester Road – Private works
KeyIS successfully completed the installation of an Air Source Heat Pump (ASHP) to replace an existing gas combination boiler, enhancing energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions. The project, valued at £14,000, exceeded initial design efficiencies and demonstrated our commitment to delivering high-performance, sustainable heating solutions.
The key objectives of this project were:
- Decarbonisation – Replacing the gas combination boiler with a more efficient ASHP system to reduce carbon emissions.
- Energy efficiency – Ensuring the system met and exceeded the original design efficiency target of 3.39 SCOP.
- Resident satisfaction – Completing the installation within three days while maintaining essential services, particularly hot water availability.
- Compliance & quality assurance – Adhering to MCS standards throughout design, installation, and commissioning.
- Tight installation timeline – The team had just 14 days from order confirmation to mobilise and complete the installation within three days.
- Resident requirements – Ensuring hot water availability by the end of day one was critical for resident satisfaction.
- Risk management – The project required detailed risk assessments and contingency planning, including RAMS documentation before work commenced.
- Efficient planning & mobilisation – A full MCS design survey was conducted, with detailed heat loss calculations and performance data used to inform installation. The team, consisting of two heat pump engineers and one electrician, was selected based on proximity and availability to meet the strict timeline.
- Seamless execution & risk mitigation –
- The unvented cylinder and immersion heater were prioritised to ensure hot water was available by the end of day one.
- The team reviewed RAMS before commencing work, ensuring a safe and efficient installation.
- Clear communication & collaboration –
- A Resident Liaison Officer (RLO) established direct communication with the resident using their preferred contact method.
- Automated SMS and email notifications via Propeller provided real-time updates on installation progress.
- The contracts team maintained regular direct contact to ensure a smooth transition during the decarbonisation process.
- Strict compliance & documentation –
- A qualified surveyor completed the initial assessment.
- The installation followed MCS design and standards, ensuring full compliance.
- Daily activity logs with photographic evidence were recorded in Propeller, providing an audit trail.
- A detailed project pack was issued, outlining costs, scope, and a clear 3-day work programme to manage expectations.
- Exceeding expectations: The ASHP system outperformed design expectations, achieving a 4.1 SCOP compared to the original target of 3.39 SCOP.
- Carbon reduction: The installation resulted in an estimated annual CO₂ savings of 3.96 tonnes.
- On-time delivery: The project was completed within the agreed timeframe, with minimal disruption to the resident.
- Seamless handover:
- Full system testing and commissioning took place before staff left the site.
- The client signed off the project following a demonstration of the system’s operation and maintenance.
- All commissioning documentation was uploaded to Propeller for audit and compliance.
- Warranties & maintenance: The system was installed with a 2-year warranty, extended to 5 years including servicing, and registered on supplier websites for compliance.
Conclusion
This project showcases KeyIS’ ability to deliver high-performance, low-carbon heating solutions with efficiency, precision, and customer satisfaction at the forefront. By exceeding design efficiencies and ensuring a smooth installation process, we continue to drive sustainable innovation in the residential heating sector.
